All about Deciduous Forests
The word "Deciduous" means "to lose leaves". Deciduous forests are very similar to where we live. These forests have trees that's leaves turn to yellow, red, and orange in the fall. These trees lose their leaves for the winter and are green during the summer.
In a deciduous forest, common trees are Oak, Birch, Beech, and Maple. You can also find moss and ferns in a deciduous forest. The climate in deciduous forest is mild. They normally have warm summers and cooler winters. Deciduous forests normally receive 25-50 inches of rain every year. You may hear a Deciduous forest called a "Temperate" forest. This means that the leaves are sensitive to temperature changes. When it starts to get colder, the leaves turn color and fall off the trees until it warms up again.
Deciduous Forests are located in the dark shaded regions on the World map above. The largest Deciduous Forests are located in North America, Europe, and parts of Asia.
Common animals found in a deciduous area are deer, bear, squirrels, owls, and snakes.
